Maybelline (Crystallize) Green Depth and Born Pretty Store Shell Paper

Hi! :D

Maybelline Green Depth is one of the Crystallize nail polishes, which is a collection of liquid sand polishes.

It’s a black polish with green/purple duochrome glass fleck and it is utterly gorgeous.

Maybelline Green Depth (No topcoat)

If you squint at the bottle, you can see the glass fleck is green in the middle and purple towards the edge. I love this polish!

However, it’s at this point that I messed the whole thing up!

Now, my original idea was to use this gorgeous Born Pretty Store shell paper over the polish to get irregularly shaped green flashes over a subtle green shimmer background. But this didn’t happen. “Why?”.

My first mistake was trying to stick the smooth plastic shell paper over liquid sand, because of the gritty finish of the polish, the paper couldn’t adhere.

Then I thought I could fix the whole thing by smothering it with topcoat but because the shell paper wasn’t stuck properly, it kept lifting, and the liquid sand polish kept soaking up all the topcoat, so I ended up with a lumpy finish. (Not a good look).

However, I still loved how the shell paper looked! I just made a mistake pairing it with a liquid sand polish. I’m definitely going to try it again and use it with a regular polish. :)

Have any of you succeeded in creating this type of nail look? Any tips for me? :)

Maybelline Red Excess (Crystallize)

Hi :)

Another day, another texture! This is a black polish with duochrome glassflecks that shift from red to gold.

I used two coats but when the polish dried it looked more brown than black so then I added topcoat, and unlike yesterday, this baby shined with topcoat! Shined and sparkled! I lovvved it topcoated, it went back to looking black, the flakies sparkled SO HARD! and the colour shift was way more noticable.

Buy this polish and topcoat it immediately! Oh and it’s only one coat of Seche Vite! It only needed one coat! I’m in polish heaven people! *Wiggles fingers*

Rimmel Purple Reign and Orly Ridiculously Regal :)

This is Rimmel Purple Reign. It’s one of the polishes from the Metal Rush collection. I realllly wanted all of these when they came out first but held off buying them because I wasn’t sure if the duochrome effect would be as strong on the nail as it is in the bottle. I’m glad I waited because I ended up buying this one for E1.49 in Dealz, bargain! :)

I posted about my other Rimmel Metal Rush polish, Royal Blue, here.

This polish I loved! It’s a red/purple/pink all at once. The duochrome effect is weak and so it looks like all of these colours at the same time and I loved the effect. I used two coats and the formula was fine.

I added this purple-y glitter from Orly, called Ridiculously Regal, on my ring finger because it matched the colour of the polish when it was at a certain angle and I love matchy-matchy nails right now. :)

The whole thing is topped off with a coat of Essie Good To Go.

Catrice Berry Potter and Plumbledore

Hi :)

This Catrice is a beautiful purple plum colour with a strong blue flash. The flash can look almost green in strong natural light but is blue in artificial light. I loooved this colour. I wore this for a week straight! My pictures don’t do this beauty justice.

My hat is off to you Catrice!

This is two coats of perfect formula with one coat of Essie Good To Go over it.

Rimmel Royal Blue and Essence Circus Confetti

Hi everyone :)

Rimmel Royal Blue is a pastel duochrome. It has a light blue base and it flashes to lavender and bright green when the light hits it at different angles. The colour flashes are subtle but they go with the base colour, all three colours are soft and pretty.

I was prepared to be disappointed in this polish because I thought the duochrome effect would be weak but instead I liked how the soft colours looked. Sometimes a subtle effect can be as pretty as a strong one.

Of course I couldn’t leave it alone though! I wanted to add a bit more colour, so I added Essence Circus Confetti, a multi coloured glitter topper. I thought they would go well together but they clashed. I liked both polishes but I’d pair them with different polished in the future. It was still a fun colourful mani and I ended up enjoying it while it was on.

Did you ever pair two polishes that didn’t match but liked them anyway?

Deborah Lippman Just Walk Away Renee

Hi Everyone :)

Today I have another Valentines mani to show you guys.

I bought a set of Deborah Lippman polishes in TK Maxx and wanted to try this gorgeous vampy shade immediately. I also wanted to do another striped heart; so I used Catrice Genius in a Bottle for the heart, and some round gold studs, from a nail art wheel I bought in River Island, to tie the whole thing together.

I was really pleased with how this came out, I thought it was very grown up! I also really liked the red and gold together.

Revlon Tanzanite

Hi Everyone!

Today I’m wearing Revlon Tanzanite. It is a lovely metallic purple colour that shifts to a bronze colour at certain angles. The colour shift in the bottle is stronger (and prettier) than on the nail, but I still think it’s a pretty polish. :)

You can see the purple at the top of my nails and you can see the bronze closer to my cuticles.

I wanted to do a striping tape mani and thought black would be a nice contrast to the purple metallic and here’s how it turned out:

Finally, here’s a pic of the bottle so you can see the gorgeous colour shift (and why I was disappointed it didn’t translate to the nail).

201.3 Revlon Tanzanite 1

I was really happy with the bright purple metallic colour but look at that lovely gold! I really wish the gold was stronger on the nail. It doesn’t even turn gold, it’s more of a dull bronze. Still pretty but just prettier in the bottle. :)
